Okoa Malaika Phase 6 was marked on World Prematurity Day 2025. Guided by the day’s theme “Giving Every Baby a Strong Start for a Hopeful Future,” the day’s activities reaffirmed the commitment to ensure that every child, no matter how early they arrive, receives the care essential to survive and thrive. H.E Excellency Madam Tessie Musalia said “There is an urgent need to extend maternity leave for preterm mothers. Many infants spend weeks in Hospitals where survival depends on parental presence. Current 90‑day provisions fall short. Flexible policies will safeguard neonatal wellbeing, empower mothers, and ensure no parent chooses between income and their child’s survival. Every baby deserves life, dignity, and care.”

Launched on World Prematurity Day 2023, Okoa Malaika has strengthened healthcare by donating neonatal equipment to 25 counties. We were glad to leave footprints in Makueni, Kitui and Machakos counties on 17^th November 2025.

Venue: Ulinzi Sports Complex- Langata, Nairobi

We hosted this year’s Staara ya Wazee at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata under the theme Women in Security. The event honored retired women officers, pioneers whose courage and commitment shaped Kenya’s history of inclusion within the disciplined forces. The Guest of Honour, Her Excellency Mama Ngina Kenyatta, was recognized for her pivotal role in advocating for women’s participation in security. Representing her, Madam Kristina Pratt encouraged veterans to form SACCOs for sustainability beyond service. Ushiriki Wema Chair, H.E. Tessie Musalia, emphasized urgent policy action to safeguard senior citizens’ welfare. Beyond tributes and speeches, the day was filled with laughter, games, and reflection, alongside a medical camp offered by Equity Afia and Lions Sight First Eye Hospital which offered free health screenings.

The fully renovated and refurbished Chekombero Special School for the Hearing Impaired was officially handed over, marking a new chapter for the learners.

A medical camp was conducted at Chekombero Special School for the Hearing Impaired, offering free check-ups and treatment for minor ailments to both learners and staff. Specialized doctors were on-site to address identified healthcare needs. This effort was made possible through the support Mudavadi Memorial Trust Fund in collaboration Equity Afia.

As part of the Kuzingatia Mazingira Yetu Program, Ushiriki Wema formally commissioned two borehole facilities at the respective campuses of the Administration Police Service and the General Service Unit.

Ushiriki Wema Foundation handed over Coconut Oil Press and Oil Filter Machines to women’s groups in Mombasa. The shift from manual to mechanized production aims to help the women increase productivity, raise incomes, and strengthen women’s economic empowerment.

The forum, held in Mombasa, brought together women entrepreneurs for a focused session on building the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy. The forum emphasized digital literacy, financial management, innovation, and cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset.

To commemorate the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, Ushiriki Wema Foundation supported the refurbishment of the children’s section at the Kenya National Library Service. At Ushiriki Wema, we believe that children are the true custodians of our future.

On the International Women’s Day, 2025, Ushiriki Wema Foundation marked the first anniversary of the Okoa Malaika Pre-Term Aid Program with the launch of Phase 5 in Taita Taveta and Kwale Counties. Under the theme “Accelerate Action: Advancing Gender Equality in Health and Leadership,” the event celebrated one year of impact in advancing maternal and neonatal health. During the occasion, Ushiriki Wema Chair, Madam Tessie Musalia handed over neonatal incubators to health facilities in both counties.
